Shop terms

For shops that list and sell on ShelfTonight.

Last updated August 28, 2026

These terms plus the Terms of Use

If you create a shop, you agree to these Shop terms and to the Terms of Use. Together they are the deal between your shop and ShelfTonight.

ShelfTonight is platform software: a website that helps shops turn leftover photos into a storefront and lets people pay for one item at a time. The Cape May Store is the company that builds this software — the machine. It is not a shop on ShelfTonight, not a boutique, and not the seller of anyone’s goods. These pages describe how that software works. They are not legal advice. ShelfTonight is not a law firm. Have a lawyer review this language before you rely on it in production.

Your public URL

The shop name you type at signup becomes the public URL: https://shelftonight.com/s/{shop_code}. The shop_code is the slug of that name — lowercase, hyphens, no extra punctuation. It is unique. If the name’s taken, change the name. We do not keep a second URL field and we do not ask for an Instagram, personal website, or other external URL as “the shop URL.” That path is how buyers find you here.

You are the seller

Your shop is the seller of record for each item you list. You are responsible for what you sell, the photos, the price you Accept, tax you choose to collect, pickup in your town, and shipping when an item ships.

ShelfTonight is software and a payment path. We are not the merchant of the goods, not the storefront landlord, and not the sender on the label.

Stripe Connect

After you save the shop, the next screen is Connect Stripe to get paid (Stripe Connect Express, platform Shelf Tonight). Skip for now is ok if the bank details are not handy — joining is not blocked. Public Buy stays off until you connect Stripe and the account can accept charges. If you skip, the desk shows Connect Stripe until you do it. Checkout uses Stripe Connect Express. If Stripe is not connected, buyers will not see Pay.

Money

The buyer pays: the listed item price + tax (if you charge it) + shipping (on ship items) + a 5% platform fee (minimum $1) + a card processing fee sized to Stripe’s US card rate (2.9% + $0.30, grossed up so the 5% stays net).

You receive the item price, tax, and shipping. ShelfTonight keeps only the 5% platform fee. The platform keeps the 5% even if you refund. On pickup, that shop money goes to your connected Stripe account when the buyer pays. On ship-to orders, the shop transfer is held until the carrier’s first scan (USPS Ground Advantage or Priority, Shippo tracking). If the package never scans, we do not payout; a refund of item + tax + shipping stays possible. We never refund the 5% platform fee. We do not take a cut of the sticker by shrinking what you typed. We will not invent a price.

You are the ship-from

Every label and packing slip uses your shop name and the store location from shop settings as USPS From/Return (the ship-from). Pickup uses that same store address. There is no second town field and no second pickup address. The buyer is To. Never ShelfTonight, never Shippo as the printed sender. If that address is missing, we do not buy a label and we do not invent one.

Refunds

Refunds are between your shop and the buyer. You refund the buyer for the item, tax, and shipping. The platform keeps the 5% fee. We do not auto-relist a refunded item or restock quantity. See /refunds.

Listings and review

You dump photos. Bots draft cards. You Accept, Reject, edit, or type a price and Save. Nothing goes live without a real numeric price. We do not invent brand, grade, postage, or gender.

Weapons, unsafe kids’ items, suspected fakes, and personal information in photos can be flagged. You must review flags. We can hold or remove listings or your shop. See /prohibited.

Your account

Owner login is required for the shop desk. Keep your password. You are responsible for people you let into /app for your shop_code. Shop A never appears on Shop B’s /s/ page.

Contact

Desk, Connect, a shop URL, or a fee line: support@shelftonight.com. hello@shelftonight.com is the same inbox. A buyer with an item, pickup, a package, or a refund writes you — you are the seller.
